Hi everyone! I’m a curious student at the university of michigan looking to contribute to a cool project like metaflow, and would appreciate any advice getting started, or anyone open to share a conversation about their experience as a contributor 🙂 I have a background writing python scripts and leetcoding but this seems like a large project thats hard to navigate…super excited to be here!

welcome Michael! meow wave is there a particular topic that you are interested in? e.g. GenAI, ML in general, data processing, distributed computing, data visualization or something else?

Im interested in ML in general and find things like distributed computing and semantic search interesting! I do understand metaflow is a data science tool so I’m eager to learn about other areas as well :)

one easy way to get started is to play with Metaflow cards: You can create a custom card with a custom visualization of e.g. CPU and memory consumption when running foreach on many instances in parallel. You can test this easily in the sandbox. If you are really adventurous, you can even create a custom card extension for Metaflow and publish it in pypi.org! It's not too hard 🙂

not necessarily. A nice thing about e.g. custom cards is that you can publish one as an extension to Metaflow without having to know anything about the internals
