👋 Really enjoying Metaflow and how simple it makes our DS workflows! There is one little pain point that I wonder whether the team would consider addressing in the future, and what the lift might be to do so. I read in this article that one key design criteria for the GUI is (emphasis mine)
The GUI backend should be a simple service, optionally sitting alongside the existing Metaflow metadata service, providing a read-only, real-time view to the stored state.
So I'm not hopeful, but I figured I'd check anyways. 🙂 I'm curious what the appetite would be for 1. Editable tags in the UI. This would make it much more ergonomic to add tags after the fact, after looking at how the experiments performed, or updating with tags that we forgot to add at run time. Modification in a notebook works but is one extra step that breaks our workflow. 2. A special "description" element displayed in the UI, which would permit longer, markdown-formatted text to be displayed inside the run page, rather than in the tags column. In principle this is separate from whether it should be editable via the UI, but that would make it much more ergonomic if it were. Attached is an image of how the MLFlow UI permits descriptions within their runs. Also an image showing where the proposed description field would be surfaced. Thanks!

Hi Jordan, not the first time we have got these feature requests 🙂 we are in the process of modernizing the UI and hopefully will be able to share ETA on these soon. meanwhile, the UI does support custom plugins - so it should be possible to add a bit of javascript that allows for mutating the tags and storing custom descriptions
