Yesterday I was trying to set up Metaflow on my Windows system. I thought it would be simple, just install it with pip and start using it. The installation looked fine, so I felt everything was okay. But when I actually tried running a flow, I started getting strange errors. Some modules like "fcntl" were missing, and they don’t even exist on Windows.
At first, I thought I made some mistake. I reinstalled Python, created a new virtual environment, and tried again. Still, the same issues came. Then I checked the documentation and some github discussions and understood that Metaflow officially supports only Linux and macos, not native Windows.
So I switched to WSL 2 and installed Metaflow inside that Linux environment. After that, everything worked properly. No errors, no missing modules. If you are planning to use Metaflow on Windows, it’s better to directly use WSL 2. It will save a lot of time.
